Balanitis can be defined as inflammation of the glans penis (the end of the penis). It can occur at any age. There are various causes which include: infection with candida (thrush), bacterial infections, sexually transmitted infections, skin irritation, and certain skin conditions. It usually clears with treatment.

What causes balanitis?

The most common causes are:

* irritants: neglected hygiene and tight foreskin (particularly in young boys) lead to irritation by smegma (a cheesy substance secreted under the foreskin).

* seborrhoeic dermatitis: an inflammatory rash of uncertain cause that is commonly seen on the scalp, behind the ears and in the skin folds.

* thrush (candida): although this infection is probably over-diagnosed by doctor and patient.

* contact allergy: latex and additives used in rubber manufacture (eg condoms) and constituents of skincare products (used by the patient or partner).

* balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO, also termed lichen sclerosis): this condition primarily affects the foreskin, leading to loss of skin colouration, scarring and tightness of the foreskin, and phimosis (inability to pull the foreskin back behind the glans), which may require circumcision. Involvement of the opening of the urethra (urine tube) can lead to irritation and burning. Surgery might be needed to prevent a stricture (narrowing) in the urethra. Steroid creams may help the irritation but patients require long-term follow-up to prevent recurrence.

* balanitis circinata: a skin manifestation of Reiter’s syndrome, in which the patient also has arthritis (often of the knees), urethritis (inflammation of the urine tube in the penis) and conjunctivitis (red eyes).

* generalised skin conditions: these can also affect the penis, including: lichen planus, psoriasis, erythema multiforme, erythema fixum (particularly caused by tetracycline antibiotics), erythroplasia of Queyrat (a rare, pre-cancerous skin condition).

* diabetes.

Balanitis in young boys is usually associated with a tight foreskin that cannot be pulled back behind the glans (phimosis).

Phimosis leads to deficient hygiene and persistent contact of urine and smegma with the skin of the glans. Straightforward cases usually respond to antibiotic ointments but recurrent cases require investigation to exclude urinary tract infection.

Occasionally, irritation and swelling of the glans can be due to paraphimosis (‘Spanish collar’), caused when a tight foreskin is retracted down the shaft behind the glans.

The tightness around the shaft slows the venous drainage of the end of the penis, and the glans swells, which tightens the paraphimosis further, making the foreskin virtually impossible to retract.

Ultimately, the restriction can interfere with the blood supply to the glans and urgent medical treatment is required. Often the foreskin can be returned to its normal position under sedation, but, if not, circumcision is required.

What investigations are needed?

* Skin swabs for bacterial or fungal culture might be taken to confirm infection, particularly in cases that do not respond to a first-line antibiotic.

* A urine sample might be sent for microscopy and culture if urinary tract infection (UTI) is suspected.

* Patch testing might be required to confirm allergies.

* A dermatologist or urologist might perform a biopsy if BXO or erythroplasia of Queyrat are suspected.

* The urine or blood should be checked for diabetes.

How is balanitis treated?

Treatment depends on the underlying cause. The common interventions are:

* infection requires the relevant antibiotic or antifungal drug. Oral antibiotics can be required for severe cases and often in children.

* potassium permanganate solution (1 in 10,000 dilution) is nearly always beneficial when used to wash the penis but causes temporary purple discolouration.

* steroid creams of mild to moderate strength are used in short-term courses for non-infective eczematous or inflammatory skin conditions.

* BXO and rarer skin conditions require referral to a urologist or dermatologist.

* phimosis and paraphimosis sometimes require circumcision to prevent recurrence.

Can balanitis be prevented?

Tips which may help to prevent some cases of balanitis include:

* Wash the glans each day. Pull the foreskin back gently whilst in the bath or shower. Then gently clean the glans using just water, or water and a bland soap. Make sure the penis and glans are dry before you put on underpants.
* If symptoms are related to condom use, try using a condom which is designed for sensitive skin. That is, hypo-allergic condoms and lubricants.
* Wash your hands before going to the toilet if you work with chemicals which can irritate delicate skin.
* Use a condom each and every time you have sex with a new sexual partner.

A male yeast infection, which is also known as male candidiasis. Not that indifferent from a female yeast infection it can occur in many parts of the male body including the genitals. Like all types of yeast infection a male yeast infection is brought about by Candida albicans. Ok, enough of the boring stuff. How do male yeast infections occur and what can you do to avoid it.

The most common causes of a yeast infection in men are:

1. Insufficient personal hygiene.

2. Using glycerine based lubricants and soaps that contain color and odor additives.

3. Certain health conditions, such as obesity and diabetes. Recent researches support the assumption that an unbalanced diet and lifestyle can contribute to overall health conditions and accelerate the development of candida balanitis.

4. Sexual contact with a woman who suffers from candidiasis; for this reason, a simultaneous treatment of both partners is necessary for efficient and permanent therapy of this medical condition.

The truth of the matter is that a male yeast infection is relatively rare, however, it is more common in male adults than in children. It is often believed that is may be more widespread that many would care to admit but many males will not seek help out of embarrassment.circumcised males. The prevalent symptoms of male candidiasis – some of them can be easily visually identified – are as follows:

1. Occasional penile discharge;

2. Stinging or tingling and an uncomfortable sensation in the penis;

3. Swollenness, redness and extreme sensitivity in the penis;

4. Blotchy painful rash on the glans penis.

If you are a male and you think you might be suffering from a yeast infection it is important to have it looked at or seek some form of treatment as quick as you can. If the infection is not treated it can cause some serious problems such as phimosis, which causes the foreskin adhesion to the inflamed and swollen glans penis. In order to prevent an unwanted development such as this, the manifestation of candida balanitis symptoms must be followed by an appropriate treatment.

Once male yeast infection is diagnosed, alternative non-medicinal treatments are recommended. An example of those treatments is keeping your personal hygiene by taking a daily shower that includes washing the penis head and foreskin, as well as keeping the penis area dry during the rest of the day. In relatively severe cases, a physician can prescribe anti-fungal creams and pills. However, following the rules of good personal hygiene while addressing the rot factors that trigger candida balanitis are the best means to prevent the male yeast infection reccurence.

Diabetic patients at greater risk for common infections

Most of us who are diabetic are well aware of the several really serious complications and risks that we might face in the longer term, possibilities that I hate to even think about, such as the increased risk of heart disease, vision loss, kidney failure. And there are others, but they are not inevitable and the worse can possibly be avoided if we can get our blood glucose levels under control.

Perhaps less serious but uncomfortable nevertheless
Diabetes is also associated with it a number of less serious but uncomfortable ailments that can easily be ignored and neglected and go untreated, at least for a while. And some of these occur more often in the case of the diabetic whose blood sugars are out of control. Being out of control describes the situation where the glucose levels in the blood are consistently above the accepted levels, not a good situation in any event.

In an earlier article, Diabetes and Dental Hygiene, reference was made to gum diseases in the mouth, gingivitis, periodontal disease, and thrush, a form of yeast infection also called candidiasis, usually the result of the high glucose levels that provides a ready source of nutrients for the many families of bacteria or fungi that can live in our bodies but are normally kept in check by our own disease fighting immune systems. But when the immune system is weakened it allows the bacteria to take over and a result is the infection.

Balinitis, another male diabetic yeast infection
There is another yeast infection, called Balinitis, to bring to your attention. Affecting male diabetics, not well known among doctors it seems, if my own personal experience is anything to go by. When I first described my irksome condition vividly to the doctor treating me for diabetes, he seemed unsure and then decided to send me to a urologist. After inspecting me, the urologist also seemed baffled and, from his comments was, I think, concerned it might be cancer related and so he cauterized it – what an experience that was! Can you imagine it?

Cauterization is the process of burning or searing an affected area by burning with a device, I think with an electric current in my case. I won’t elaborate here, but balanitis affects the male genital area, that reference will be enough for you to recognize whether you have it and I will leave you to look it up and get the details yourself.

Anyway, showing no improvement at the time of a follow up a week or two after the cauterization, the urologist pondered a while and then decided to send me to a dermatologist, fortunately practicing in the same building, who saw me the same day. When the dermatologist made his inspection he too was puzzled, did not recognize the condition, but finally after carefully peering at the appropriate area said, “I think it must be a yeast infection” and at that gave a prescription for an ointment that did help to a degree but the condition never totally disappeared.

A year or two later, when the condition flared up again I had by then used up all the ointment and had moved to a new town with a new doctor. Also I had identified the ailment myself when reading the diabetes literature. As soon as I asked my new doctor for ointment to treat my complaint known as balinitis, he immediately knew the condition and prescribed an ointment, an anti-fungal I believe, called. Miconazole Nitrate (MCL). That ointment has been fairly effective, the condition needs to be carefully watched, but it is much better.

In spite of my own experience with doctors, I read elsewhere that the condition should be recognized immediately and that treatment can clear it up in 3 to 5 days.

Caution
Balanitis does sometimes affect non-diabetics and there are some more serious forms of the disease. There is significantly more important information available than my brief and simple description given here and I urge anyone who is concerned to check more deeply into the condition and locate the full details relating to balanitis, or any other genital ailment for that matter,

Raising awareness
My purpose with this article is to raise awareness of such ailments so that if they should occur a doctor may be consulted without delay, minimizing the effects. And to again emphasize that diabetic patients are at greater risk for several such common infections, especially if blood glucose levels are elevated beyond normal for too long a period of time, allowing creation of an environment that enhances the growth of harmful organisms such as fungi, bacteria and viruses.

Diflucan, also known as flucanazole, is an important antifungal agent that belongs to the triazole subclass of synthetic drugs. This is an orally-administered medication that is being extensively used in the treatment of fungal and yeast infections that are usually hard to get rid off.

Cell membranes or cell walls are extremely vital for the survival of fungi and yeast. Cell wall prevents the entry of unwanted of substances into the cells and also prevents the contents inside the cells from leaking out. Flucanazole destroys the disease causing fungi and yeast by disrupting the structure of this cell membrane. It blocks the production of a substance called ergosterol that results in the formation of holes in the cell membrane of the fungal and yeast cells.

Diflucan is used in the treatment of infections caused by Candida and Cryptococcus species of fungi. Some of the diseases where this antifungal agent has been very effective include athlete’s foot, ring worm, jock itch, infection by Pityriasis versicolor, candidiasis in the linings of the mouth, throat, lung or urinary tract, systemic candidiasis, vaginitis, candidal balanitis and cryptococcal meningitis. It is also used to prevent fungal and yeast infections in people with a weakened immune system resulting due to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or bone marrow transplants.

The drug is available in the form of oral tablets, oral suspension and intravenous injections. Depending on the severity of the disease, the medicine is administered by physicians in any of these forms. However, one should never use this drug without consulting a physician. Some of the side effects of this medicine include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, rash, seizures, hair loss and liver disorders. People can also suffer from severe allergic reactions. Apart from these, doctors should never prescribe Diflucan to patients who are already being administered with drugs such as cisapride and terfenadine. Administration of the medicine is also not advised in pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Candidiasis infection can be problem for skin. To learn more about skin care, it is important to know about what is candida and how to prevent it. Candidiasis mainly affects the vulva, vagina and penis. It itches, burns and there is a white curd like secretion in women because of Candidiasis.

Candidiasis is caused by a yeast candida. Candida is a common name of a group of yeasts. Candida cannot survive without a living host. It is common yeast found in the human digestive track. It lives without causing any problems, but attacks whenever the body becomes weak in defending itself. Candida lives with the normal bacteria also called the good bacteria in the body. Candida may cause candidiasis infections, when the body defense gets lowered due to intake of antibiotics, or lower immunity, or presence of factors that help candida to multiply. It commonly affects the skin.

Candidiasis>

As said earlier, candida is a group of yeasts. There are many yeasts in this group. The variety that causes candidiasis is c.albicans.

Candida can cause the following infections:

Mucocutaneous Candidiasis

Oral infections – Thrush

Skin fold infections – Intertrigo

Nail fold infections

Penile infection – Balanitis

Genital infection in women – Vulvovaginal candidiasis

Candidiasis> Occurrence >

Candidiasis can occur when the body’s defense is low. It also happens due to warm climate, pregnancy, contraceptive pills, diabetes, iron deficiency, over-intake of antibiotics, and if you have some skin diseases such as lichen planus, psoriasis, etc. Candidiasis is also a problem with those who are on long-term steroids or those who have HIV infection.

Yeast infection is not for women only. There are very many male yeast infections being treated every now and then. The most common places where male yeast infections happen are the gut, groin and the anus. They cause so much discomfort if they multiple too much in the gut and therefore without the normal yeast count in the gut, a man is bound to fall sick. Some of the symptoms include fatigue, loss of memory, indigestion and so many others. They literally ruin your gut and one way they do that is by producing pointed structures that make holes in the walls of your gut. This root like structures they shoot are called rhizoids.

From these holes, bacteria and yeast can find their way to your bloodstream and as a result, you will have skin infections, joint pains and other inflammations which will find their way to the lungs. The yeast will then penetrate your major organs settling down to feed off your system. When the yeast are settled in your organs, they produce over 75 toxic substances which the major one is ethanol. Ethanol is an alcohol and it is going to have the same effect on your brain. Most men who are affected always describe it as a brain fog. All this is going to affect a man’s biochemical system and cause so many problems like constipation, stomach bloating, brain fog, heartburn blurred vision, lack of energy, mood swings, food allergies and the list is endless.

Yeast balanitis is another form of male yeast infection. The symptoms include itching at the penis area with sores and great discomfort. Some men will be even more sore and tender after sexual intercourse. They may notice some white stuff at the tip of the penis and also flakiness. If left untreated, this condition has he potential to cause impotence. However, the cure is available and you can easily treat the yeast infection. You will need to contact a doctor to have the right medication prescribed for you. Candidemia is the worst case of male yeast infection where the yeast have entered your bloodstream in full force and your immunity has been compromised.

This condition is more likely to affect men and it can be for people with chronic illnesses like cancer and who are taking medications like cortisones. Men who suffer from AIDS will be at higher risk of getting the serious infection. You can get it also from hospitals where if you were operated on, you can pick it up. Male yeast infection can be cured and it is upon you to decide whether you want to go for herbal remedies or for the more contemporary ones. Something that men should keep in mind is that they can get yeast infections from their girlfriends. Having unprotected sex with a woman who has too much yeast in her system will definitely affect you. She might have the normal yeast levels but, due to factors in your body like diseases like diabetes, you can easily get infected.

There is nothing more embarrassing than having an itch on the vagina when out socializing. It’s funny if you think about it, if an itch is on the end of your nose, your head or ear you scratch it regardless of who stands before you, but when it’s round the crotch/anus then the way we get relief is not so openly done. Could this have something to do with why the genitals are called the privates, hence the secrecy between fingers meeting up with the itchy vagina? Okay it doesn’t look nice to scrawb at your bits when in the company of people, but an itch is an itch and made for scratching. And another thing is, what must people think for why you scratch i.e. pubic lice (crabs) or maybe VD might even cross their mind. Now you can always retreat around the corner out of sight to scratch, or find the root cause for your itchy vagina and cure it. There are many reasons accountable for a vaginal itch or anus one. If you itch because you have a vaginal rash then this is easily treated and rid using home treatments, however and more often than not an itchy vagina comes about from vaginal infections.

One infection strongly connected for causing an itch is vaginal thrush. As with specific infections they can also affect the vaginal opening and surrounding skin along with pain. Bear in mind that not all women get the symptoms associated with infection but if they do, the way they cope and respond to vaginal treatments can differ greatly. There are 3 common infections we address on a regular basis and the reason why is, because it is normally one of them that is responsible for a vaginal itch.

If you experience vulval discomfort then we look towards the thrush infection, bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas vaginalis and herpes simplex.

Thrush

Thrush as we are aware is caused by a fungal organism called Candida albicans which lives in our bodies. Candida albicans grow and mass around the genitals which bring on thrush symptoms. Clarified symptoms are a white, thick, yeasty smelling vaginal discharge, and a very itchy sore and red vulval region. Sometimes the rectum (anal) opening can also become painfully itchy. Most Vaginal infections excluding some STDs are treated with antifungal drugs, vaginal creams, and vaginal pessaries. Creams and pessaries which need inserting inside the vagina can however cause burning and skin irritation similar to the thrush infection. Because of this confusion comes to the fore over whether it ‘s the side effects of the treatment or the symptoms of the infection. Although vaginal treatments are deemed safe – particular feminine products have to be ideal for you and the infection you suffer from. If vulval skin is itchy and sore then cream can help with easing discomfort. Some medications come in oral form. Personal preference will prevail for whatever treatment you use, however if it is not a 100% for clearing your infection then it is waste of time and money leaving you still infected. Temporary cures are not want you want you want rid and gone forever. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding consult with GP before using vaginal treatments.

Treatment for thrush can be obtained from the pharmacy but talk to the pharmacist before purchase because; it is possible to mis-use treatments for vaginal itching/soreness that are not thrush. Wrong treatments may lead to long-standing vulval problems and can worsen the condition you set out to heal.

Don’t let anyone tell you any different that after being diagnosed with thrush that you have been sexually active. Thrush is not a sexually transmitted infection. Thrush does not always cause symptoms in men and may present as balanitis or a non-specific urethritis (NSU.)

Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis also like thrush bringing soreness, burning and itching of the vulva but hardly ever sees redness or swelling. We associate the unpleasant fishy smell with bacterial Vaginosis and a smelly grey or white vaginal discharge. Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) happens when the good bacteria in the vagina are removed to make way for bad bacteria. So it is bad bacteria we look to treat and destroy to ease soreness, relieve itching and rid the fishy smell. Because of similar symptoms it is easy to think you have thrush when you have BV. Bacterial Vaginosis is the more severe out of the two infections because it can lead to internal infection called pelvic inflammatory disease.

Trichomonas Vaginalis

Have you been diagnosed with having Trichomonas Vaginalis but at the time of diagnosis did not hear clearly or understand what the GP had to say. This happens regular where a woman might have been frightened by the medical term used for her condition and goes home none the wiser. Well Trichomoniasis or Trich as it is called at times is a vaginal infection which causes vulva soreness, reddening and inflammation. A common symptom of Trich is a foamy, yellow greenish vaginal discharge. Some women feel pain when weeing. The organism responsible for the symptoms is a parasite in the vaginal mucus. It spreads through penetrative vaginal sex and the exchange of vaginal fluid, meaning, sharing sex toys or sex gadgets.

Herpes Simplex is a viral infection

This virus exists in two types. Herpes simplex type 1 appears as cold sores around the mouth, and herpes simplex type 2 involves the genitals. When the infection first takes hold, painful sores show on the vulva and vagina. It may hurt to urinate as urine is acidic and stings if it comes in contact with herpes sores. Other symptoms include a tingly and itchy vagina, swollen glands in the groin and general flu-like symptoms. Swollen glands or flu-like symptoms only happen during the first attack.

As with particular viral infections, there is no permanent way of ridding herpes and its recurrence.

Now we have covered vaginal infections let us focus on the vaginal rash and how to treat it. This should not take long as it is just simply water that will do the trick. There are solutions for soothing but just keeping the vagina fresh airy and dry will speed up the recovery process making this the best solution.

What exactly is Phimosis? Well, in common terms phimosis refers to a condition where the foreskin does not retract properly from the glans (or head) of the penis. In medical terms, however phimosis is a more specific condition where there is scarring and obstruction of the opening of the foreskin caused by Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans or BXO. This is a localised condition of the skin and is distinguished by white patches on the head of the penis and a white ring of hardened skin at the tip of the foreskin. The cause of BXO is not known, however it is generally the one cause of tight foreskin for which circumcision is required.

There are various causes of tight foreskin or what is generally termed ‘phimosis’, but very often it is simply because males are born that way. This is ‘Congenital Phimosis’ and all males are born with it. This usually resolves itself with development into adulthood, however for some the condition persists into later years.

There is a tendency for medical practitioners to immediately prescribe circumcision for phimosis, however there are much less drastic options which should be explored in the first instance, and surgery should only be used as a last resort.

So what can you do about it? Very often, simple stretching exercises will be able to sort it out. The majority of phimosis cases can be suitably loosened by careful stretching of the foreskin. This may be manual or can be assisted with a proprietary stretching instrument. Stretching exercises should be tried initially before any other treatment, however you should seek advice from your medical practitioner before undertaking exercises, to rule out any underlying medical reasons for your tight foreskin. It is also important that stretching is carried out correctly to avoid paraphimosis. This is where the foreskin becomes trapped behind the head of the penis and if this persists for a number of hours or if there are any signs of a lack of blood flow it should be treated as a medical emergency.

A less radical surgical procedure than circumcision is Preputial Plasty. This involves a small cut being made in the foreskin in order to widen the preputial ring so that the foreskin can pass over the head of the penis. This can be an effective cure for phimosis, it is usually done under local anaesthetic, and is much less severe than circumcision.

Non-surgical, conservative treatments for phimosis and foreskin problems are much easier and cheaper than circumcision, however many physicians are unaware of these and it has been estimated that 7 out of 10 circumcisions for medical reasons are unnecessary, and could have been treated with less radical means.

Stretching exercises, when carried out correctly are the simplest of all cures for phimosis and while they won’t cure all cases, they should be considered the first step before any other treatment is considered.

Laying the groundwork for Candida recovery is more a matter of following several simple and time-tested steps. Recovering from Candida, on the other hand, is a matter of coming up with and then obeying a good plan for diet, medicine and overall good health.

In the first place, any good Candida recovery process involves knowing how the Candida organism grows out of control in the first place. Generally, candidiasis, is treated through changes in diet, killing off the Candida with antifungals, and adopting healthier lifestyle choices.

For women, Candida infections usually show themselves as either vaginitis or yeast infections. Men, who do in fact contract candida related medical issues, will often experience those issues when the Candida organism makes its presence on the head of the penis. Called “balanitis, ” this condition is treated much the same way as candidiasis in women.

As a microorganism, Candida is naturally found in the G.I. Tract of almost every man and woman. Overuse of antibiotic medicines will typically cause helpful bacteria, or other beneficial microorganisms, which control the Candida organism, to die off. When that occurs, the Candida organism will rush in to fill the void.

Because of these issues, making a full recovery from Candidiasis will require teamwork on the part of the patient and the doctor or homeopathic specialist, to not only identify the organism, but to get at the root of the issue that allowed the organism to turn into a full-blown Candida infection.

In many instances, the Candida recovery process can be a long, slow and often frustrating experience. It might mean totally changing the diet so that sugar is completely eliminated for a long period of time, and introducing beneficial substances such as probiotics on a regular basis (most probiotics are found in yogurt). This will help to repopulate the G.I. tract with healthy colonies of friendly bacteria which will not only keep the Candida in check, but also keep the entire body, including the immune system, in balance. Also a good Candida recovery diet will include healthy meats, vegetables and a very small amount of complex carbohydrates.

Recovering from Candida will also have to take into account the mental state of a person whose experiencing a bout of the Candida organism. Additionally, friends and family and their understanding of candidiasis can go a long way to helping a person overcome the issue. Everyone should know, though, that candidiasis is NOT a sexually transmitted disease.

Information on Candida and all the research that’s been conducted on it over the years is available online with just a few clicks of a mouse. There are also a number of quality ebooks and articles about the organism and the medical conditions it can cause. Sometimes the problem lies in people not taking responsibility for their own health and instead placing it completely on their doctor or caregiver which can be dangerous.

In the end, recovering from Candida depends almost completely upon the mindset of the individual suffering from the organism and also upon the willingness of that same person to do the things necessary to not only eliminate candidiasis from his or her life, but also to make sure it never comes back again.

Candida albicans fungus is a type of yeast that is naturally present in the human intestine. This fungus can lead to a problem only if it is given the opportunity to grow and break out causing an infection. Monilia is another name for this type of bacteria that is mostly present in or near other mucous membranes, like the rectum, mouth, and vagina. An outbreak can become more dangerous if it passes into the blood, thereby affecting other organs and bodily functions.

Candida albicans fungus requires a warm moist place to grow. Overgrowth in the fungus can lead to a Candida infection. One common causes of Candida infections is the overuse of antibiotics which destroy some of the harmful microorganisms in the body, but also kill the friendly, yeast regulating bacteria. The root cause of Candida infections is typically the lack of friendly bacteria within the digestive tract. Aside from antibiotics, cortisone and birth control pills are also major culprits.

Yeast overgrowth is sometimes called a Candida infection. Candida albicans thrush is an overgrowth of the infection when it occurs in the mouth, particularly infants. Vaginitis, or yeast infections, are characterized by white or yellow discharge and inflammation of the vulva and walls of the vagina. An overgrowth in the colon and intestines happens with the over consumption of alcohol, sugars, and antibiotics.

Some of the symptoms, aside from swelling and discomfort, can include fatigue, lethargy, and even motility. For instance, if food is not able to be eliminated through the colon, then the resulting motility can cause fatigue. Dietary choices and food allergies are usually the contributing factors. Generally, undigested food within the intestinal tract can provide nourishment and a home for monilia. Furthermore, the warm and moist colon walls and unbalanced pH environment can increase their growth.

Thrush, for instance, can be visible on the tongue having a creamy white or bluish patch like appearance. It can also be present on the lining of the mouth and throat. If the skin becomes inflamed, then the tissue would appear beefy red. A diaper rash can also result from the warm, moist environment. Other types of infections can affect the fingernails and even the penis, which is referred to as balanitis or Candida penis.

Once in the blood (systemic), a whole host of other issues and symptoms can occur. If the monilia reaches the kidneys, it can produce blood in the urine, for instance. In the heart, valve damage can occur as well as heart murmurs. Lung infections can be evidenced by bloody sputum. Eyes can also be affected with sharp pain and blurry vision. After reaching the brain, it can cause seizures and erratic behavior. However, this is only for the extremely rare, more serious condition.

For Candida treatment there are a number of drugs, such as antifungals, that can be effective. Some of these include nystatin, Diflucan, Lamisil. For diaper rashes, a barrier cream can also be used along with frequent diaper changes. Some of the more natural remedies can include: grapefruit seed extract and garlic. However, eliminating certain sugars, and including a high fiber diet, can be very effective in its prevention and control. Those with a proclivity to Candida albicans should keep their skin clean and dry since Candida albicans fungus loves warm and moist environments.

Almost everyone can be at risk when it comes to Candida albicans. However, the following would fall under a higher risk category: babies with a diaper rash, obesity, diabetics, women who take high dose contraceptives, pregnant women, and people who overuse antibiotics. The best prevention is to maintain a clean, dry, and healthy environment for the skin and intestines. It also is advisable that if one is uncertain about any aspect of this disease that they check out Candidia albicans fungus symptoms.
